Lean Out... how to live a balanced life as a woman

The book Lean In, by Sheryl Sanford, empowered women to go big for their career aspirations and push through traditional gender boundaries. When I read the book I was left inspired and motivated, yet uncertain about how to lean in enough to get ahead, but not too much to leave my kids and family behind.

Our roles as women has changed so much in the past few decades, that now we have more options than ever before.

For some, this has created a “Super Woman” entity that feels as though we have to do it all, do it well, AND look good and feel good while we’re at it.

We’ve probably all felt this from time to time. I certainly see it every day in my women’s health practice every day. We can lean in to our goals and aspirations as long as we can get right back to center. Feeling centered in our lives creates that feeling of balance both personally and professionally. Some of the best ways I find that help women create balance are:

  • Spending time with friends, especially female friends.  Our common achievements and challenges, create a bond that can provide immeasurable support.

  • Spending time alone.  Without quiet, the mind and body can not process the day’s lessons and time’s wisdom.

  • Share your struggles- with friends, family, or a professional.  Everyone has struggles. By being vulnerable enough to share them, you will most often feel so much better when you find out you are not alone and get the support you need.

Learn to Lean In and Lean Out to create the balance you crave.
